Carlos Tucker Rivera Lab 1 1/29/21 Pre Lab: 1. The definition of precision is when a collection of data is collectively close to each other and only a few data points from each other. Accuracy is when the collection of data is closest to its true value. Data can be precise but not accurate whereas a few data points can be accurate but not precise. We ideally want data to be both accurate and precise. 2. The data is not accurate but it is precise because the data points are within less than a gram of each other. 3. This is a systematic error in the data because it is consistent along all the data. 4. There would be 3 significant figures because the value for 122.4 g is +/- 1.3 so it would fall between 121.1 and 123.7 and when reporting you use the digits that stay the same plus one more, thus it being 3. 5. The percent error would be 11.10%. 6. The balance is able to calculate the smallest change to the mass so recording all of the decimal places is important to then decide the need for significant figures when the standard deviation is calculated. Lab 1: Part 1. Trial 1: 40.5092 g Trial 2: 40.5087 g Trial 3: 40.5085 g Trial 4: 40.5090 g Average: 40.50885 g Part 2: Temp: 23 degrees celsius Density: 0.99753 g/cm^3 Mass Before Adding Water: First: 40.5090 g Second: 50.4480 g Third: 60.3340 g Fourth: 70. 2929 g
Mass After Adding Water: First: 50.4480 g Second: 60.3340 g Third: 70. 2929 g Fourth: 80.2412 g Mass of 10mL of water: First: 9.939 g Second: 9.886 g Third: 9.9589 g Fourth: 9.9483 g Avg: 9.93305 g Part 3: Mass Before Adding Water: First: 40.5102 g Second: 51.0048 g Third: 61.9565 g Fourth: 72.7239 g Mass After Adding Water: First: 51.0048 g Second: 61.9565 g Third: 72.7239 g Fourth: 83.6287 g Mass of 10mL of water: First: 10.4946 g Second: 10.9517 g Third: 10.7674 g Fourth: 10.9048 g Avg: 10.7796 g Part 4: Mass Before Adding Water: First: 34.4277 g Second: 43.9399 g Third: 53.5890 g Fourth: 63.5838 g Mass After Adding Water:
