What were the Effects of the Age of Discovery? The Age of Exploration was a time of struggle and wealth for many European countries. The pursuit of a trade route to the Far East led many countries across the ocean, looking for the great spice cities that were rumored by Marco Polo. These countries knew that whoever found the shortest or best route would become rich, very quickly. Explorers from many European countries embarked on journeys that not even they had any clue where they were going. The world trade of the period increased to an unprecedented amount. There was new types of businesses, new goods to be sold, and most importantly, new land to conquer. The exchange of goods from the New World and Europe increased Europe’s wealth, but not only was there an exchange of goods, but also an exchange of disease. The first effect of the Age of Exploration, was the finding of the New World. The New World provided opportunities for European countries to conquer new lands and to obtain wealth while conquering. After Columbus “found'; the New World, there were European explorers embarking on new journeys there constantly. They would set up new colonies and conquer new lands. From these colonies, they set up trading posts back to their mother countries. Gold, fur, corn, potatoes, tobacco, chocolate, and many other products were brought back to Europe. The wealth from these products could only be imagined. The countries would then trade their imports to other countries and make a huge profit. This influx of money and goods led to the change of the economic systems in Europe. This change caused the Commercial Revolution, or the establishment of many types of new businesses. The Age of Exploration made a huge impact on history as we know it. The Age of Exploration started in the 14th century and ended around the late 17th century; when European countries were looking for the three G's : God,gold and glory.The three G’s were reasons for Europeans to explore and discover the world, used in the Age of Discovery. The first G :God- Europeans felt that they had this responsibility to convert non-Christians to Christianity. The second G: Glory for the national honor and pride for discoveries .This helped promote individualism the quality of being individual; served as a motivating factor for explorers to seek fame and glory by conquering far away lands. The last G: Gold drove which helped drive the wealth of European nations which helped with the Commerce Revolution, new trade routes for countries and their direct access to the market.

The Age of Exploration began in the early 1500’s in the nation of Portugal under leadership of Henry the Navigator. The first expedition to circle the globe was led by the Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan. The causes of the Age of Exploration was to look for new trade routes and spread religion. The effects of the Age of Exploration were slavery and disease.
Between the years 1492 through 1750 a new world was discovered that was before unknown to the eastern hemisphere. New contacts were formed in the Atlantic world due to the discovery and colonization of the Americas and later African slave trade, which were both very major events of this time. These interactions mainly affected Western Europe, Africa, and the Americas, whose economies were broadened and social structures further developed and altered as a result.

Over the time of this era we as humans were able to form bonds between different countries through trade. Things such as livestock, crops, and even religion were spread through trade. Missionaries traveled from Europe to the Americas in order to spread the word of Christianity from person to person. There were many reasons and causes to the age of exploration beginning. New technology was rising in the field of exploration. Astrolabes are used to show how the sky will looks at a specific place at a given time (Document two). These astrolabes would allow the explorer to navigate easier and would help guide the explorer before better technology. Trade became the economy for many countries. The diagram in document three shows that trade had to go through the Middle East and the quantity would get smaller(Document 3). Christopher Columbus was a very important history figure. It was his belief that the world was round and that he could find a new route to the Asian mainland by sailing west. In 1492 he persuaded Queen Isabella to finance his famous expedition, and he set said will 3 majestic ships and 90 courageous men. Amid this period, many economic consequences impacted the success and failure in which have signified this new era through discoveries. The Age of Exploration with the Columbian Exchange created an economic environment in which European countries could gain wealth through mercantilism. However, as mercantilism allowed some European countries to grow more powerful, capitalism was able to develop at the same time. These two systems share differences, but in the end still allowed European countries to become more politically and economically powerful.
