Dr. Matthew Lynch from, “Education New” states that, “Students tend to forget a lot during summer break, so a shorter time away from school might increase retention rates” (Watson). Dr.Lynch is saying that having a shorter summer break will tend more to the students, because they will remember and learn more than what a student who has the whole summer off.
If there is year round schooling, there is a higher potential level and students would benefit from having year-round schooling. There are year round schooling which would cause a lot less distractions through the school year. “Suppose in the year round school program, there’s a break every six or eight weeks; that means as soon as students begin to feel settled, they’re off again. If shortened breaks come too frequently, as they’d almost have to in the new system, it becomes harder for students to ever get
The first reason why kids should have a summer break is that it makes school less complicated. According to Jennifer Brozak, a disadvantage of having a year round school is that the school budget has to increase. They will need to have more fundraisers in order to keep the school going. If they neglect to get the amount of money they need they sometimes cancel and let the students have a summer break. In addition, teachers are having difficulty with planning lessons for students and grading papers in a short amount of time they have (Brozak). In addition, Brozak says, because of the short amount of time teachers have to grade papers they are prone to burnout. This is one of the reasons that schools should have a summer break because both teachers and students’ mental pressure because of work (Brozak). As a student, I can say that breaks will be necessary to recharge and prepare myself
Students normally feel more refreshed after breaks and are willing to get back into learning and doing school work. Since there are many breaks in a year-round schedule, students learn more due to the fact that they receive many breaks to get refreshed. People may think the traditional schedule is better because you get a long summer break, but it is not necessarily better. Coming back to school in September after a long relaxing summer break, students tend to forget everything they learned the previous school year.
As a student, having more frequent breaks could benefit students and teachers. “Although cumulatively there would be fewer days of, the frequency of school breaks would be much higher” (Top 10 Reasons). Normal schools have a summer break, two other breaks, and an assortment of different holidays (Top 10 Reasons). Additionally, if kids go to year-round school, which have more frequent breaks, they could have less stress.
Year-Round school will take away businesses and will end up costing more than the traditional school calendar. YRS calendar would be the regular beginning of the year date and continue on from there and before the next school year starts the students would have only 2 weeks before school starts again to “be on vacation”, if you even want to call it that. The students grades depends on the teachers’ teaching abilities, it shouldn’t matter how long the school year is. If the student needs extended time for school, that’s what summer school is for. “Houston, Texas schools abandoned the YRS program after eight years because of the added expenses and no true relief from overcrowding or improvements
Schools around the U.S. are switching to a calendar called year-round school. Kids in year-round schools go to school from six to nine weeks without breaks and a two-to-four week break. There has been a debate on whether Florida should go to year-round or not. Florida should go to year-round school because there is less teacher and student burnout, and teachers would have to spend less time reviewing material that would be lost over summer break. Regular schools give teachers an advantage because it allows teachers more time to prepare for the next school year and finalize grades, but Florida should go to year-round school because the benefits outweigh the disadvantages.
The first reason we should have year round school is because of students memories. This could help teachers spend less time reviewing what we already learned. According to Oxford Learning® students are at risk of summer learning loss. This could be prevented with year round
Most importantly, students' education and health would benefit. Year-round schooling would allow students to move at their own pace. Students would also be able to retain information more easily because they won't have to remember what they learned over the long summer breaks. Lastly, a students' brain won't have nearly as much strain because students would be learning in a more structured schedule.
If so what? The ability to retain information is the biggest benefit, that would be worth the shorter breaks throughout the year. It would be really beneficial to the students who are doing bad in school could use year round school to their advantage because they wouldn't forget anything and even if they did it would be very little but forgetting a little is better than forgetting a lot and if that would improve their academic scores on tests the SAT or the ACT and that would lead to better colleges overall year round school would improve academic scores
The NSLA took a survey of educators and it confirmed that teachers who work in a school that follows the traditional schedule spend between three to six weeks re-teaching material from the previous school year (Source C). Along with this survey it is believed by most of districts who have implemented year-round school that it is academically necessary because it helps students with retention rates, if students are never out on break for months at a time they will be less likely to forgot the information leaving teachers with more time to teach new information without fearing the old information has gone away. While some teachers dislike the new schedule because it leaves them little time to prepare from the end of one school year to the beginning of the next, the educational time it saves in the long run outweighs the loss of planning time consequently making year-round school an essential change to the educational system in America (Source

Some year-round school advocates suggest that a shift in the time designated for teaching and learning will help students achieve more by minimalizing summer learning loss, allowing for innovation and implementation of creative programs, and by providing the time needed to assist children who need extra help (Lynch).
