Middle school was a drastic change in my life. In elementary school I didn't have to worry about wearing makeup or what I wore but once I entered middle school, it all changed. The classes became harder, the testing became more frequent, the teachers started to care less, and having to change classes every hour and a half was very confusing. The kids in middle school were deviant, rude, mischievous, and delinquents. I had to adjust to the bullying but through the 2 years I was at PBMS I never got used to it. I have always had trouble with bullying but in middle school it was like getting hit in the face with a brick. Some kids even pulled the fire alarm to look cool and to get into the 'popular' group or as I like to refer to them as, 'the
That isn’t to say they were all sarcastic and took every chance they could to cause problems but they were more mature. In elementary, it was all fun and games but being in middle school was a little more serious to me. The other students took their homework more seriously and tried harder not to be absent. It was quite a shock from wanting to miss every day I could. Everything seemed to have a deeper meaning at that time as well, especially friendships. I almost feel we treasured them more then than es do in high school. Everyone wanted to have that group of friends like in those movies about the perfect high school and the jocks etc. etc. Of course, we still acted like elementary students in our free time but class time was just that. Class
My first day of middle school was all over the place. I had more classes then I did last year and had no idea where to go. My new school was 2 floors tall. I went up and down stairs over and over again. I didn’t know where my locker was or the combo. I was so not ready for middle school at all my life will never be the same because I will have multiple classes and teachers.
I started middle school at Bethany Middle school, I had my two older cousins going to school with me. One is the same grade I am and the other is two years older. It was nice having them but we all hung out with different crowds and sometimes we would not agree on the same things so we would not always get along. My first day of middle school was not as bad as i thought it would have been due to the fact that the Bethany middle school was not big at all. My 6th grade year was tough for me when it came to school work, i was used to the work from Central Elementary school and the Bethany Schools were much more strict and left a lot of homework so it was a big change for me. I remember my English class was the hardest along with science but I
Middle school just seemed like another round at the elementary school. The year that I was dreading came along, seventh grade. Checking out an AR book was required for a grade and we had to test on the books we checked out even if we didn’t enjoy the book. My english teacher was picky, everything had to be just how she wanted it but other than her checking over the students work every five minutes she was good. Science was my favorite class to take and I was so excited to have that class and Rainie, my sister told me she would be a great teacher. Our class had a couple of class clowns in it, but who would have thought the students would end up making our teacher cry? Eighth grade was definitely difficult my science teacher, Mrs Prescott knew what she was doing and boy that made the class then times harder she was willing to do anything to help me out. She was not hesitant to call home to a kids parent in front of the class if the next day there was no homework brought back. Once a month we went on a field trip to E.O Wilson Biophilia and it was always a blast studying different types of animals and learn about the environment. Middle school wasn’t exactly a walk in the park but it was not too far from it.
Middle school was a place where I was beginning to mature and see how to make it on my own. Also I got to meet new people. Try new things and just have fun. The best day I had in middle school was when me and my friend won the science fair project fair. We had came in second place. I was so happy and proud of what we
Many people have changed going into middle school. People transfer schools, make new friends, develop new habits, and become a good or bad influence. Students also change their appearance. Sometimes kids just plainly stay the same.
Middle school was an awkward time for everyone, in fact, it was like a popularity contest that no one could win. Honestly, it sucked. Typically I would go through a day of school and receive countless eye rolls whenever I said or did anything out of the status, or if I fell in the hallways people would laugh, not help. I was positively obsessed with trying to fit in, so much
Something that changed me when I went to middle school was becoming more responsible. Keeping up with my books, remembering what class to go to, and keeping up the homework assignments that were assigned.
Middle school was a rough time like it was for many because I still did not even know who I was yet. MIddle school was very difficult to adjust to at first because all my life I had only been in one class all day everyday with the same teacher and they made sure you always had a note to remind you of your homework for the night. Middle school was when I began to make my own choices and had to suffer the consequences that came with those choices. In middle school is when I found out how much I liked business because of a field trip my 6th grade year to Biztown which was a small fake “community” that everyone worked in and would be a citizen in the town.
Starting middle school changed how I felt about being a preteen almost being an adult. When I was in sixth grade at the middle school,I didn’t have any confidence about being in a huge school. I was frightened about anything that could of went wrong.
It did not take very long for me to realize that middle school really wasn’t all that bad, there were many aspects that I actually liked more. For me, not wearing uniforms was a big deal, although it rarely strayed from jeans or khaki shorts, being able to wear what I wanted gave me a sense of freedom. On top of this, passing periods gave me the opportunity to roam the halls and talk
Has the change from 5th grade to 6th grade changed your life, if so how? A change can affect your life in a good way or a bad way. 6th grade has had a positive effect and a negative effect on my life. Since entering the 6th grade I have learned having more stuff to keep up is hard, friends can be gained or lost over the school year, and how there is more freedom.
Middle school was a very big transition for me. I went from a class of 20 people to a class of 35 people and one classroom to six classrooms! At first I was very anxious because I had been in class with the same people continuously for most of my school life, and now I would barely see those people. Over the past two years of my middle school experience, I have lost friends, made better friends, learned more, matured, and became more independent. Middle school has taught me how to be independent. I had learned that I could not rely on my teacher to remind me that I need to turn in my work, that I needed to figure out my problems myself, and that I needed to ask for help if I need it. I am very grateful that middle school has taught me all
Nationally, practitioners, district leaders, and parents are concerned about the transitions that occur with sixth graders in middle school. Some parents worry that sixth graders in middle school have increased behavior concerns, peer pressure, and a significant decline in academic achievement. According to the data findings in the study conducted in Iowa (Linnenbrink, 2010), the research suggests that it is common for students to experience challenges while adjusting to a new environment; however, not all groups of students experience a negative relationship between building transitions and test scores. The students that transitioned the most in this study experienced the greatest negative relationship between test scores and building transition.
