2. Children’s behaviour is influenced by a variety of contextual factors. Understanding these factors and the ways in which they can impact upon behaviour is crucial to effectively supporting children.
For each of the contextual factors listed below, provide a brief description of the key understandings Educators need to have.

Understanding the contextual factors at your school and within your classroom can include a variety of things such as culture, economics, demographics and even academic history. As teachers you need to remain flexible and understand the different collective and individual learning needs of all your students. The issues you may face as a teacher may connect to the local community and may need to be taken into account when instructing students in your classroom. It is important as a teacher to be able to not only understand when you make instructional decisions you can be influenced by outside factors but also understand how the contextual analysis will affect these issues at hand.
The interaction a preschooler has with the surrounding environment, whether it be physical or social, has a significant impact on the child’s development. Ramani (2012), had taken a look at playful environment versus a structured environment to see which one benefited children more when it came to social interaction and joint problem solving. The interaction shown in the experiment showed that a playful environment benefits children more because they are free to communicate and interact with other children, they were more observant of their environment, would imitate more to get their point across, and were overall more positive. Denham, Bassett, Zisser, and Wyatt (2014) evaluated the child’s engagement with the surrounding physical and social environment, along with taking a look at the ways social-emotional learning can predict how academically ready the children are.
My philosophy is that every child has the right to learn, play and no child should be left behind. As an educator, I need to provide positive and meaningful learning experiences for every child’s development. I believe for children to learn best they should learn through free structure play. These plays would stimulate the child’s creativity and provide opportunities for the child to explore and learn. I also believe that all children learn best when they are engaged. Thereby the materials that I should provide must be captivating and concrete such as setting up child-friendly learning spaces with materials that are didactic to
I met with the manager Kath for the first time and we had a discussion and I was shown around the nursery. I then spent some time around the rooms and chatted to the staff. This was a really positive experience and I witnesses lots of positive interaction with the children and staff. It was evident that the children were very confident and have built up very positive relationships with each other. The environment is spacious with lots of garden space.
The second key issue I have chosen to look at is the role of the adult within the environment. It is the role of the adult within the setting to create an interesting environment this is because it will encourage and motivate the children to play and learn. It is important that practitioners in the setting should provide recourses for the children that will help develop the children's imagination, creativity and their independent thinking and should also place them in places where children can have easy access to them. It is also the role of the adult to provide a supportive environment for children where children can play and learn. This is because providing a supportive environment will enable the children and young
According to researcher, it is important to create a healthy and respectful learning environment because young children experience their world an environment of relationships and these relationships affect virtually all aspects of their development, intellectual social, emotional, physical, behavioral and moral.
Early childhood classrooms are made with love and excitement by the teachers. Classrooms are created every year for a new group of students with purpose and meaning. Teachers spend hours on end to make their upcoming year one to remember for their students. Teachers work to create a safe environment, after all children spend more hours in school than their homes. According to Curtis and Carter (2003), “the environment is the most visible aspect of the work done in the schools. The layout of the physical space is welcoming and fosters encounters, communication, and relationships. The arrangement of structures,
The environment where a child is learning should be developmentally appropriate for the child in that age group. The classroom learning centers in this environment are arranged to offer different opportunities for children to learn in small groups or individual settings. The schedule allows for the routine needs of each child to be met. Young children tend to do better with transitioning from one activity to the next when the teacher refers to a schedule. Learning environments and schedules work hand-in-hand to create an enjoyable environment that promotes engagement, play, and exploration of all children.
Fiore shared that when the teacher, child, and environment are in sync there is a strong coming together of energy and involvement. I believe this is evident by the way the class furniture what set up and the places of learning that was happening throughout different spaces in the room. I recognize that the structure and décor of the classrooms were created with the intention of creating spaces for students to feel comfortable to learn. Also, I found that the classrooms changed to meet the needs of students, as they got older. For example, rooms for toddlers had neutral colors, but the older classrooms had more color. In addition, Fiore argues for classroom environments that are accessible, useful, and safe for students. I believe the rooms in the Boulder schools satisfy the structure describe by
In general, people believe that the atmosphere has a big role in the learning environment. It is not an exception in the preschool room of my field placement centre. The children are encouraged to play because the environment is adequate and has maximized learning spaces, indoor space and storage.
PURPOSE OF STUDY: This study investigated the effects of three levels of the spatial definition of behaviour settings--from well-defined to poorly define--on children's social and cognitive behaviour.
Utilize growth proficiency to compose a safe and sound, considerate, supportive, and intriguing environment for the young children.
Every child Matters; This provides every child no matter their background or circumstances the support they will need. Every child needs to be healthy which includes growing and their development as well as their emotional and physical well being, the environment needs to be a safe place for them to be able to develop, another principle is for the children to enjoy and achieve through their learning and be able to achieve economic well-being through their life. In order for children to flourish within an environment it is important that they are supported both by their environment and by those who are there. Within an enabling environment there needs to be “stimulating resources, relevant to all the children’s cultures and communities” (Development Matters, 2012) as a stimulating environment will enable children to learn and develop.
