Discriminatory Practices

In this assignment, I will be describing how anti-discriminatory practice is promoted in health and social care settings. I will discuss difficulties that may arise when implementing anti-discriminatory practice in health and social care settings and justify ways of overcoming difficulties that may arise when implementing anti-discriminatory practice in health and social care settings.

Complains are not very nice to deal with buy in care work it happened are we have to solve the problem asap. All small complains can be said to staff and then carer try to solve the problem. If not she/he may need to report problem to senior carer or manager, which has obligation to deal with it. Very important complain must be in writing and reported to manager which has to solve the problem. All related to care home policies and procedures.

Individual’s rights also need to be promoted in order for holistic support to be provided by professionals. All adults in a health and social care environment such as a care home have rights to their confidentiality, respect, choice and to have their individuality taken into consideration. They also have the right not to be discriminated against, to receive equal and fair treatment and also to have access to the policies and procedures of the health and social care organisation. They should know when and how to make a complaint should they feel there care need are not being met. Children in care settings also have promotion of rights. These individuals should always have the right to be heard and it remain confidential, to have their wishes considered, be provided with stimulating activities and the right to be safe and secure from harm.

As a manager I need to put forward and informing vision and objectives for our home and what it represents. My words, actions and the way I behave towards equality and diversity should be encouraging, empathetic and a strong commitment to equality and opportunity. Making sure and implementing the homes policy towards equality, diversity and inclusion and having it accessible for all staff to read and to know where the information can be obtainable. As a manager I need to make sure that all the residents needs are meet by providing the correct external agency to meet their individual needs and abilities. Where I am in doubt I need to seek and make use of specialist and experts in equality, diversity and inclusion issues. I as a manager need to report any issues to the relevant approved authorities.

Conflict and dilemmas may arise between the duty of care and individuals rights could be staff having a difference of opinion over an service user for example a staff member believing that they have seen signs of abuse and then another staff member denying this assumptions, this then can lead to conflict betweens the staff members and the individuals family/ carers if the members of staff involved any other agencies such as social services , GP , health

The data protection act- the data protection act is legislation put in place to keep personal data confidential. It can promote anti-discriminatory practice as it can stop people finding out information about individuals that the individual wants to stay private. E.g. phone numbers and addresses. These would need to stay private so people don’t find out where you live or what is wrong with you.

I am going to write about the discriminatory practices in a care setting and the effects they have on individuals using the service. People can be discriminated against in a number of different ways which can be described as telling people apart, and seeing the differences instead of the person’s individualism.

Dignity and privacy are rights that can be forgotten by staff when working in a residential facility like Highfield. They must ensure that the resident’s privacy and dignity are respected at all times. Areas where this is important are dressing and undressing, intimate care, entering private room and examinations.

The safeguarding vulnerable groups act 2007 is an important piece of legislation in the residential home as the residents are older and may be suffering from dementia or Alzheimer’s which would make them particularly vulnerable.
