I believe the purpose of school is learning, but learning in a way that engages the students and helps them find ways to apply their knowledge in life. The best way to help students learn is to have the best teachers. I believe the best teachers come from those who constantly strive; to be their best, to inspire, to motivate, to help children/students, and to make a difference. I want to make a difference and I want to take part in helping to educate the future generations. To achieve this, I must focus on what it means to be to be teacher in my eyes, what my values and philosophies are, and how I want my classroom to feel, and remain true to these ideas. As a teacher I plan to put forth a positive attitude, but still remain real and honest with my students as to create trust. I feel one of the best ways for children to learn is for them to participate in discussion, and the only way to do that is to provide a comfortable environment for them; a space that feels safe, happy, fun at times, and full of space for growing, learning, and discovering their identity. I plan to be kind, supportive, and understanding, and to always be willing to be available for my students to talk to or get help from. I believe students thrive off of the creativity of each other, and that of the teacher too. Therefore, as a teacher I plan to use my creativity to hopefully make it so that my students will be having fun without realizing that they are also learning. By incorporating different ways to
Education is a very important aspect of our lives. It is our education that makes us who we are and determines what we become. Therefore, education is not something to be taken lightly. As a teacher, my goal will be to provide the best possible education for my students. Every student is unique. I must see students for who they are individually and respect their ideas and opinions. Each student has a different learning style. I must take this into consideration because I want to provide a constructive learning opportunity for every student. I believe that every student has the potential to learn.
Working with young children, helping them grow and learn, has always been my biggest passion in life. My philosophy of education has the main focus of knowing that each child that comes into my classroom is unique and deserves a safe and stimulating environment to learn and grow to their full potential. It is essential to create an environment that allows each student to grow physically, mentally, emotionally and socially. In order to create this environment, the most important role I have is to make them feel safe, and to learn about them in all the aspects I mentioned above and really understand all the learning styles within the class. When my students feel comfortable and safe in my classroom they will be able to take risks and share their
I believe that every person/student is very unique and brings a lot ot the table in order for everyone to learn from. The teacher needs to create a safe and welcoming learning environment when at school. The students should feel comfortable when coming to class and find that their teacher cares about their education. When caring for and loving the students in the class the teacher is respecting them and welcoming them with open arms. Through this, I will work with the students in helping them get where they need to be academically and teaching on their level of learning they are in. I will go to all lengths to help them grow in and grasp what is being taught if they are behind not comprehending the
Since Koreans started to learn English, thousands of people have struggled to master the language. Parents currently invest a lot of money and their children spend enormous amounts of time studying English as government suggests new language policies. However, proper verification and investigation of those policies have not been done yet and the outlet is really not promising (Suh, 2007). Most Korean students study English for tests. The purpose of English is so focused on tests that the situation makes the language classroom very uncomfortable and tense. This situation may also be caused by public schools? preferred method of teaching the grammar-translation method (GTM). Students are given lists of vocabulary terns and are also encouraged to learn grammatical rules, as teachers provide translation activities for their classes instead of practical oral proficiency practice (Richards and Rodgers, 2001). With the pressure of tests and teacher-centered lectures, many students lose interest in learning the English language or become stressed out about it. Most of all, some teachers and educators forgot to figure out why students learn the language.
Individuals who guide others in learning essential information concepts needed to sustain a daily living are known as teachers or educators. Becoming an educator and teaching future generations is more than a career choice, it is a calling that requires an immense amount of passion, preparedness and keeping an open mind. In this statement, I will explain the influence that immediately sparked my interest in becoming an educator and share my personal beliefs on the important aspects of education. In addition to this, I will present various traits I believe are essential and critical for teachers to successfully fulfill their role as an educator.
Ever since I decided to pursue a career in the field of education, I always wondered what grade level best fitted me. Could it be Elementary, where children have been stereotyped as uncontrollable little brats, Middle School, where the students are depicted as uncontrollable, rebellious students, or High School, oh gee whiz? I have decided that I would pursue a career in Elementary School. The grade level I hope to teach is at the elementary school level. My current goal is to either teach the 4th or 5th grade level. Moreover, throughout the semester I have read about or seen different philosophies through the observations I have done throughout the semester. While reading chapter 6 in the class text I thought to myself, as an educator
My philosophy of teaching is that every child should be treated equal and should have the right to learn and get a good quality education. Every child has the ability to learn. It is my job as a teacher to make sure that every student has a chance to learn while in my classroom. My classroom will be based on multicultural education. This will create an equal learning opportunity for all my students. I will treat all of my students equally and with respect no matter what kind of diversity I may have in my classroom. Also, I believe in making my classroom a safe environment for the students. In order for a child to like school and want to come and learn, they have to feel like the classroom is a safe place. Furthermore, I will make sure my students’ parents play an active role in their education. It is very important that parents are involved in their child’s education. At the beginning of the school year, I will set up a time to meet with the parents so that I can get to know them. At this time, I will give the parents some different strategies on how to help their child with his/her homework. I will send a homework sheet home on Mondays that will have the homework on it for the whole week. The parents will be required to review the homework sheet each day, help their child with the homework for that day, and sign the homework sheet after the work is completed. Also, I will contact the parents on a regular basis for positive comments or any concerns that I may have about
Teaching in the modern classroom presents challenges many previous educators have not been faced with. The Melbourne Declaration of Educational Goals for Young Australians (Ministerial Council on Education, Employment, Training and Youth Affairs [MCEETYA], 2008) states that today are students will become “successful learners, confident and creative individuals, and active and informed citizens”. In order for educators to meet these demands, they will need to consider how they will prepare students for the future (Marland, 2007).
My classroom will have a welcoming environment that feels safe so that all students can be as expressive as they want or need to be. There will be student art displayed that was hand-selected for the effort the artist put into it, which in hopes this will help give students motivation in wanting to have their artwork displayed. In my classroom, there will be an array of books, tools, materials, and more to help the students creatively. The inside of my classroom will display other forms of inspiration like music, videos, well-known artist’s work, etc. Displaying the other sources of inspiration will help engage the classroom involvement, I will also give the option of letting a student present the inspiration for the day, for example choosing the music for the day or showing the class an inspiring video that will help create inspiration for others.
Write your Personal Philosophy of Teaching based upon your reading and learning in this unit. Refer to aspects including: attributes of an effective teacher, student engagement and motivation, catering for diversity (500 –800 words).
I believe a classroom should be a sanctuary of learning in which the students know from the beginning what is expected of them and the teacher should discuss what is expected of her as a teacher. There needs to be an understanding amongst all involved with the children education. This understanding can lead to a fun filled adventurous classroom that encourages students to strive for the best. I believe when students and teachers are able to learn from each other, the learning environment can be successful. A successful classroom involves having an effective educator who believes they can make a difference in their students’ lives by believing in themselves as productive teachers. For a teacher to be effective, I believe they need to base
Deciding what you want to do with your life is a very difficult decision that every person has to face in their lives, especially during their teen years when people are expected to choose a career that helps them to fulfill their dreams. Since I wasn’t the exception, and I had decided how I wanted to help people from a very young age, it took me a bit longer to realize I didn’t just want to help people, but I also wanted to do it by doing something I enjoy and love. That’s when I chose English pedagogy, because it is a way to help people by giving them the tools to learn and the possibility to achieve what they want in their lives through education and the learning of the language I like. This three years I’ve spent studying to become a teacher have not only made me learn more English, but have also made me realize that I want to keep improving my skills as a teacher, deciding to continue
I personally believe that the goal of education should be to encourage students to seek answers to develop their schemas as well as to facilitate their development of knowledge. Aside from academics, I also believe teachers should focus on instilling values in students such as the need for trust, fair play, and the ability to take prospective, also a desire to grow older and have a positive influence on society. While teaching I would like to take all these factors into
Being the science of teaching, pedagogy encompasses the complexity of a teacher’s work. Roget (1997) defines pedagogy as “the act, process or art of imparting knowledge and skill” (Roget, 1997). This module has developed in me the appropriate pedagogical knowledge and skills and helped me evolve as a beginner teacher. Since the start of the module, I have discovered many new dimensions to teaching which has been added to my philosophy of teaching.
Teaching is a profession with many rewards within itself. As a teacher, not only do I get the opportunity to teach my students new content material, but I also get to bond with them and teach them valuable life lessons. Being a teacher is more than just giving the students some information and quizzing them over it. I believe it is about making a difference in their lives. Many teachers have different teaching philosophies, but my teaching philosophy is centered on valuing my students culture and language, insisting on high quality work from all students, and caring for all of my students as well as building a strong relationship with them.
