The Zoo is a place where many kinds of wild animals are kept and purpose of the zoo is that collection, study, and display the animals to the public. Zoos are entertainment, and while they contribute to conservation. In addition, zoos study their animals to provide a suitable environment. Zoos give medical care and feed animals who need help so reduced the animals’ stress. Moreover, zoos can educate people about the importance of rescuing endangered animals. Therefore, there are some people who believe that keeping zoos are better for animal extinction and people’s entertainment. However, in fact, Zoos are not a solution to an animal conversation. This is because animals today are still abused with unethical behavior, bad environment, and commercial use. First of all, people operate the zoo with unethical behavior. They sell and buy the animal for display and the zoos didn’t regard their animals as a creature. Their purpose of selling and buying is just for entertainment. In addition, a lot of animals are killed in the zoo. a CAPS study said that at least 7,500 animals and possibly as many as 200,000 especially in European zoo (CAPS). Animals in zoos are regularly culled in the zoos. For example, two wolf cubs and adult female were shot dead at Dartmoor Wildfire Park because of overcrowding and sometimes they fought each other. The reason cannot be reasonable. Sometimes, if they want to sell a tiger, but buyers don’t want to buy, the zoos are willing to kill them (CAPS). In
As the animal rights movement has developed and grown substantially in recent years, there has been an increased focused on the welfare of captive animals. A popular institution that has received much attention for keeping animals captive is the zoo. Because of this focus, zoos have responded by publicizing their positive benefits for existence in order to justify keeping these animals on display. Since the term “zoo” can have a wide variety of meaning and characteristics, it is important to define what constitutes a zoo in this essay. Zoos are defined as a facility in which animals are confined within enclosures, displayed to the public, and
Zoos may seem fun to visit and exciting to see the animals; but what you don’t see is the suffering and depression that lies in these helpless creatures. There are many arguments whether or not zoos are good or bad, and if they should be removed or kept. Several think that zoos should be abolished or at least very much improved, due to animal cruelty. While, others want zoos to stay because it is beneficial for the animals and people. I strongly believe that zoos aren’t good for both the public and animals for numerous reasons.
There have been a lot of problems with animals in zoos. It has gotten to the point where zoos are hated and looked upon as a places of animal torture. Are zoos really that bad? Turns out, they are. They do not have enough space, they do not allow the animals to communicate with each other, and they sell the animals to cruel circuses.
In the past, there have been many reports of zoo accidents, to be specific; over 200 zoo accidents in the last 26 years have occurred. From my perspective zoos should be prohibited, taking innocent animals from the wild and holding them captive for display at zoos is cruel. There has been a bulk amount of controversy over the topic of zoo mishaps and whose fault is to blame for the occurrence. In all fairness, nobody should be blamed, but there should be a change or new regulations to guide zoos in a more prominent direction. Because in the end, if there is no difference in the zoo, then tragic events like this will continue to happen. There are various amounts of precautions that can be taken by zoo corporations to prevent zoo accidents;
Some people may argue that zoos are good for sick or injured animals; however, while they can help nurture babies and bring sick creatures back to health, they are not safe for healthy animals. Dr. Lesley Dickey estimates that every year about 3,000 to 5,000 animals are ‘management euthanized’ in European zoos (Barnes). This means that zoos put down animals if there is not enough space for them. This is called zoo culling. Some zoos even dissect animals in front of guests that they killed. Zoos are for caring for animals, there is no place for cruelty. Although most zoos don’t kill surplus animals, that doesn’t make them innocent. Some animals don’t live as long in zoos as they do in the wild. The median life span in European zoos for African
Zoos have changed and found a balance between being an attraction and conservation park. Some people think zoos should protect animals to the best of their ability. For example, some zoos have upgraded animals’ living spaces so that they feel comfortable. Overall, the role of zoos is to protect animals by providing them with their basic needs, making sure they have a suitable place to live, and to save them from extinction!
Now there are modern zoos in almost every city in the world that boasts different arrays of animals. With all these different zoos around the world, we see different approaches on how these animals are treated and what they are subjected to.
When people hear the word Zoo many different thoughts and opinions come to mind, but the levels of positivity and negativity vary from person to person. A common grievance is that zoos are jails to animals and their conditions are similar to circuses. Due to traveling and poor living conditions. Animals of the entertainment business are treated with much less respect than in a zoo. Others tend to think of the cute, fuzzy, and even funny animals living in well-designed habitats. No matter the opinion one approaches this article with, the knowledge of how a zoo actually works is often lacking. Few actually know that these animals are in the best place for them, and often feel just as at home. A great example is The Denver Zoo’s own Red Panda
Zoos provide protection for animals. Some hunters may kill animals in the wild for their skin so they can sell it. In a zoo, this can never occur. Another reason that zoos should not be banned is that animals are really looked after in the zoo. If an animal got sick in the wild nature there is no one to treat it and most probably the animal will suffer from pain and may even die. However, if the same case was in a zoo, highly qualified vets will be available to deal with this situation appropriately and these vets will provide medicine to the sick or injured
When I was a little girl, I was always eager to have a day out to the zoo where I could get up close with hundreds of beautiful animals. I heard many interesting stories of animal life and how hard they have to fight in wild life to survive. Zoo, under my eyes, was a wonderful land where animals were rescued and taken care off in a safe beautiful place. It was much more fun when I figured out animal could do many interesting things as human did as monkey could drive bicycle, and dolphin can dance in the water. However, with the development of media, many truths have been revealed, and zoo is not simply as wonderful as I thought. Monkeys were not born to drive bicycle; dolphins do not naturally dance in the water. They all have to go through severe process of training to do trick and entertain for human. Then, it becomes even more complicated to make up mind what are the real effects of zoos on animal and human. It is definitely a valuable source for public studying. Many zoos were established as a new home for endangered animal. However, it is undeniable that many zoos have taken away animal freedom, as well as torture them for the purpose of entertainment and commercial.
Some people agree that animals should be kept in the zoo. They said it would be safer for the animals and they won’t be extinct. The amount of possibilities of them dying, shot by hunters or any other reason, still higher than the chances of their survival. Food and shelter are provided, medicine, and their breeding is being controlled. And many of the wild animals in zoos are ones that are on the endangered list as their amounts are rapidly diminishing. Letting them loose and returning them to the wild is not necessarily a safe option. (Mylot, 2007) In fact, zoo can be one of the educational studies for children and people who are interested with animals. Zoo is the only place that we can have an opportunity to see animal’s life really close and sometimes we can touch them. Zoos also provide lots of information about certain animals, children can have chance to get out of the classroom and learn so they can see natural beauty from different species of animals. Even children can see them from discovery channel but that’s really different if you see animal in real world, for an example, if you see crocodile, snake or shark in the movie, maybe you won’t afraid than you see the real one. According to Tudge, (1992, p.56) Zoos are the place where people can study animals and their habitat, even scientist don’t need to go
Not all animal should be in zoos because some may have had a family and they may have been taken away from them. Animals may have been losing their hunting, persisting skills. Imagine a lion feeling all blue because they have been separated from their family, friends, and nature. Eventually the animal is going to die of depresses. Animals need an enormous, wide-space environment to live. They would probably feel crowded like New York and they don’t want that…… do they?
Have you ever thought about the lifestyle and the future of the animals, whether they should have them live with us on Earth or not? “Animals have few rights, but they have every right to be here.” (Bigcat Rescue) A way to keep the animals safe is by having zoos. Having Zoos means to keep the animals alive and to prevent their future from being impacted where they may no longer live in this world. Zoos are there to not only entertain people by their unique characteristics, but zoos also provide utmost care to the animals to ensure that the animals will continue to survive. A reason why some people disagree on having zoos is because they think that the zoo workers are taking
Are animals safe in zoos? Are zoos main priority profit, and not animal welfare, therefore capitalizing on breeding, buying, and selling animals? There are many pros and many cons of animals being kept in zoos. A couple of those pros and perspectives are, conducting research, education and conservation opportunities for the animals. While also, zoos providing many benefits to animals that normally would have not received them, such as training. On the flip side, there are a couple cons. Some of the perspectives of the cons, are zoos posing risks that affect animals and how zoos take their toll on the mental conditions of animals, dictating behavior of some animals and ultimately the animal’s welfare. I will touch on these pros and cons throughout the paper and will be considering different varieties of perspectives, and ultimately concluding on my thoughts of animals being kept in zoos. Are animals safe in zoos? That’s been a question many people are trying to answer.
People who have visited ad worked in zoos usually bring disturbing facts about how zoos are managed and operated and how animals are treated. Considering not all zoos are good, it is no doubt that not all animals are kept perfectly as much as many advocates of animals wish.Moreso, there are other
