I am the Assistant Deputy In Charge of the high threat capital murder case of U.S. vs. Ricky Fackrell and Christopher Cramer currently underway in Beaumont, TX. Both defendants are federal inmates and members of the violent prison gang Soldiers of Aryan Culture. These defendants are accused of stabbing another inmate at least 68 times, inflicting mortal wounds to the victim. During the course of this trial, both inmates have made spontaneous outbursts during the trial and veiled threats towards prosecutors and prosecution witnesses. These defendants are considered extremely violent, as defendant Fackrell has an additional murder charge pending, where he is accused of stomping the head of another inmate, causing that inmate to enter a vegetative
Recently in Alabama a man by the name of Anthony Ray Hinton was exonerated from death row after already spending thirty years in prison. Hinton was convicted of two separate fatal shootings of fast food restaurant managers in Birmingham, AL. One on February 25, 1985 shooting a John Davidson, and the second occurrence was on July 2, 1985 making Thomas Vason the second deceased. The evidence brought against him was a revolver that somewhat matched the one Hinton had in his home. There was no physical evidence, no fingerprints and no eyewitnesses linking him to the crime. Also, the revolver was questionable at best due to the fact the gun belonged to his mother who he lived with. Ballistics could not accurately tell if the gun Hinton had was even the weapon used in the shootings because they could not tell if his gun had been fired out of recently. They also could not conclusively say that all the bullets used in the two shootings were fired from the same gun. All in all, Hinton was convicted by a possible bullet match to his gun; and an eyewitness’s testimony from a person who was present at a similar, but different crime that Hinton was never accused of. Hinton coming from an underprivileged area only had a $1,000 to hire a ballistics expert to disprove the allegations. Thus leading to a person whose proposed allegations were questionable. Hinton was found guilty and put on Death Row. After sitting in a jail cell for thirty years he was released after firearms experts
As I entered the court, the trial has already commenced so I did not really know how a real trial started. I sat in the back where the public sits, facing the judge bench. The courtroom was cold and quiet. Especially it was very small, much smaller and less impressive than I expected.. Everyone was in formal dressing code. There were just a few number of spectators and family members in the court room. There was a clerk who was typing everything what was happening during the court time. Judge Krocker appeared to have things under control and had the proceedings moving forward smoothly. She was a very friendly lady with short blonde hair. She was listening attentively. She spoke clearly and distinctly so that everyone in the courtroom could hear. Samuel Gallegos is a white man about 5 '8 tall. He looked quite nervous while some police officers were standing behind him. From what I understood, this case was really happening back in 2014 and the suspect has criminal history relating to assault of child and another related case to this case. On my left hand side were the bailiffs while some others stood observed
On Saturday, September 12, 2015, I was assigned to the 6 Northwest as the security officer. At approximately 0500 hours while breakfast trays were being distributed in pod 100, an inmate, later identified as Kimmie Hawkins became insolent and advised me to get out of the pod. I immediately asked him whom he was talking to and simultaneously walked over to him to view his armband. As I reached for Inmate Hawkins’s left wrist, he snatched away from me, got in a boxing stance, and began bouncing rhythmically on his toes. Therefore, I retrieved my T.A.S.E.R. from its holster and gave Inmate Hawkins loud verbal commands to get on the floor. However, he refused to follow my orders; therefore, I pushed him toward the wall and continued to instruct

Once inside, he secured his weapon in a gun locker and removed the accused from the vehicle. Another search of the accused and the back seat of the vehicle were negative for any weapons or contraband. The accused was guided to the booking room for processing. I sent County Dispatch a criminal history form which yielded Robert has one Felony arrest and numerous Domestic Violence incidents. I made contact with Judge William Golden, advised him of the CCH findings along with today’s incident. Judge Golden then set bail for $10,000 full. I prepared Warrant 2105 1566 for Aggravated Assault on a police officer and Summons 2015 1567 for resisting arrest. Robert while waiting for transport in the cell complained of pain to his ribs and shoulder. P/O D' Alton secured Robert into his vehicle and transported him to Inspira to be medically cleared. Once Robert was cleared for incarceration, Robert was transported back to HQ and then turned over to the Gloucester County Sheriff's Department to be lodged in a county facility. All of the prisoner property was returned upon his release from this

During this case, I watched a criminal court hearing for James King, the defendant, who allegedly threatened a judge, the plaintiff.
Upon my arrival, I spoke with the victim in the case identified as Joe Rush. He advised me on November 20, 2015, at approximately 2:00 AM, he was hanging out with Allen Warren, suspect, and Samantha Henderson, witness. Joe Rush told that he fell asleep by the camp fire and came to Allen Warren striking him on the head region. He advised he tried to get up to get away but Allen Warren pushed him down and got on top of him and started striking him several more times. At that time, Samantha Henderson said his legs are on fire, that's when Allen Warren got off
On July 22, 2015 I witnessed a trial with three defendants Rahmel Bond, Jermaine Butts, Demetrius Gill. All three alleged criminals are being charged with the shooting death of William Jordan during a robbery. While waiting for the trial to start I observed the atmosphere of the court room, I was expecting to see a few reporters, family members of the victim or even for the defendants. There was only me and the assistant for the district attorney in the crowd, when I summed up the courage, I informed her that I was a criminal justice major and was sitting in to witness the trial; she then explain to me what was the proceedings for that day. The prosecutor who is assistant district attorney Deingeniis was ending his closing arguments on that
The U.S. Department of Justice is responsible for enforcing federal laws and administrating justice systems in the United States. However, the U.S. Department of Justice has a criminal justice system that is not fair for everyone in the country, specifically for those who are mentally ill, or poor. Over the past couple of years in the United States, there have been many innocent people wrongfully convicted and put on death row due to the corruption of the government. The main factor that has been identify as the cause of wrongful convictions is eyewitness misidentification. The Bedau and Radelet’s study demostrates that there are around 350 wrongful convictions in capital cases. Many abolitionists have arisen against capital punishments, since the exponential increase of exonerations based on DNA or non-DNA evidence. Their goal is to improve the current methods performed by our criminal justice system. The U.S. Department of Justice has acknowledged that its current criminal justice system is not being very effective in punishing the guilty. Since there have been many cases of wrongful convictions, many people are starting to question what has been the improvements that the U.S. Department of Justice has make in order to prevent false imprisonment and death penalty of innocent people. The Department of Justice has tried to decrease the number of inmates who were wrongly put on death row by improving prosecutorial accountability, by researching past criminal cases, and by

In the United States, the criminal justice system is a combination of laws and institutions. Laws are to be enforced in order for society to work appropriately as a whole. The many institutions of the criminal justice system include law enforcement, juvenile and adult courts, and correctional facilities. It is a unique system that has developed a specific process to serve justice. It is however, a process that is not without its faults. Ricky has been in an accident which has left him in a persistent vegetative state. He has been in a coma for eight months and has “massive” brain damage. Ricky breaths on his own, he opens his eyes, moves around, but is unconscious. Ricky is also completely dependent on a feeding tube. No one can say if Ricky will come out of the coma, but if he does, he will not be the same person due to the brain damage; he will never be a functional adult again according to Ricky’s doctor, Dr. Saul Steinman. The parents are running out of insurance and other medical resources.
