The Selflessness Of Respect It seems like many controversies are going on in our world today. Because of this, respecting others is vital to ensure that everyone feels important and listened to. If people think only about themselves without considering how their actions might affect others, people around them will not think highly of them. It will be hard to earn their respect in return. All over the world you can find endless examples of people respecting each other, animals, and the environment. From a very young age, we have all learned how to respect others and their rights, no matter our differences, but it hasn’t always been that way. As a citizen of the United States of America, I know that once I turn eighteen years old I will have the right and the privilege of voting in all elections. However, just about a hundred years ago women did not have the same rights as men and were not allowed to vote, even if they were of age. They were not respected in the same way as men, even though they could be born from the same parents, possess the same amount of land, and breathe and walk the same way as male voters. Now that the voting laws have changed, all citizens of the US are allowed to …show more content…
After our games, we are instructed to shake hands with the other team and congratulate each other, no matter if we won or lost. If the other team wins the game, I sometimes feel a sort of resentment before I have even really gotten to know the other players. But, when the time comes at the end of the game, I make sure to shake their hands out of respect for each girl, even if one of them might have pushed me particularly hard. I do that because I believe in showing genuine respect to other people. If you do that, it will be much easier to go through life knowing that you have made an effort to make sure others know they are important and make them just that little bit
Respect your teachers, peers, family, and friends and most importantly have self respect. If one can’t respect oneself, how can he or she possibly show the same courtesy to others?
As a citizen of America what I believe in is that we should respect one another. We’ve gotten so far together in history we gotten through hard and tragic times. People work hard everyday and night to improve the way we live and we take it for granted. We need to show respect for every person in society no matter whom they are born to or by their looks. No matter even if they collect the garbage or work to save lives everyone deserves to be respected. Every person has a role in society even though it might not seem this way.
Amanda, I think that treating others the way you want to be treated is a great standard to live by. It is very important to be respectful to others. Others may not realize it, but the attitude they have and give off affects the people they are around.
Former Mexican president Benito Juarez once said, “among individuals, as well as nations, respect for the rights of others is peace.” This phrase has stuck with me for most of my life. This quote is meaningful to me, because it is about having respect towards others, their rights and property. Particularly my father always brought it to my attention whenever I got in trouble at school. These days, I think respect is a necessary in all areas of society, whether you are at the club with a few friends or meeting with your boss during lunch. Also, it is important to take into account the physical belongings of others as well.
I was taught that for me to be able to respect others, I have to respect myself. I see this to be true for me because I used to constantly beat myself up mistakes that I made in my past. If I am too busy worrying about my past, I find that it makes it even harder for me to focus on the present moment and give the person I am speaking with the respect he deserves. Respect played a big part in my early days of recovery because it was a principle that I did not emulate very well when I was in the midst of my addiction. I had lost all respect for myself, my friends, my family, and really anyone else that I came in contact with because of my own selfishness. When I first arrived in treatment, I had forgotten the concept of respect for myself and for others, but treatment helped me regain the ability to respect myself. After I learned how to respect and love myself, I was able to show respect the to everyone that they deserved. It is now a personal goal of mine to show respect to everyone that I meet because it is a great way to build a good first impression and rapport with
Self-respect is a very powerful term. Self-respect is something that has to be earned; it has to be earned from you for yourself. Self-respect has to be learned by oneself, nobody is born with self-respect for himself or herself; it’s not an instinct. Many people take pride in their sense of self-respect. Self-respect is a vital part of ones existence. Self-respect is developed throughout a persons lifetime through many different experiences and encounters with other people, oneself and society. According to Merriam-Webster collegiate dictionary the meaning of self-respect is 1: “a proper respect of oneself as a human being” 2: “regard for one’s own standing or position”. Self-respect can come in many shapes and forms. There is no mandated definition for this word. It is all what meaning you make of it.
Explanation: The focus point of my life is that my family follows “The Golden Rule” by treating others as you want to be treated yourself. This concept of “the Golden Rule” will continue to allow me to become courteous of others on a daily basis when dealing with people. Just when some days I am in an unparticular poor mood, does not give me the right to take my frustrations out on the world. Nonetheless, it is important that I attempt to create a positive impact on others on whatever the case may be, considering that every individual deserves the right to be respected. For example, just starting a conversation with someone or simply asking how their day is going will hopefully allow them to leave their stress behind and acknowledge that others have their own sensibility. Nevertheless, showing respect for someone will display how important your life is as equal as someone else.
Respect others – If we have no respect for others, how can we have self-respect? Self-respect means we have inner confidence and inner assurance, this is not a confidence or assurance built on superiority. It is the wrong approach to try and feel better by putting others down. If we look for the good qualities in other people it is easier to remember the good qualities in ourselves.
The deeper we ponder, the more complex the whole idea becomes. We cannot simply allow ourselves to act on every single impulse we have, because we share the world with others. But we also cannot constantly limit ourselves in order to accommodate to the wishes of others. It thus appears that self respect is something to be managed skilfully – without hurting others and without hurting ourselves, so that we can be ourselves and meet our own needs but at the same time, without invading the space of other people. Following all our impulses, although theoretically is a manifestation of respect because we would then allow ourselves to be who we truly are, is not always the best idea not only because we
Second even if the other team is losing their tempers, it doesn't mean you have to. We are not professional athletes but we are college players/fans so we must hold ourselves to a higher standard because people are always watching. Third, cheer on your team with positive statements and avoid trash talking the other team. Fourth when officials make a call, accept it gracefully even if it goes against you. Remember the referees may not be right every time, but they are people doing their best just as you are. Lastly, whether you win or lose, congratulate your opponents on a game well played. The next time anyone plays a sport, they can hold their head high after the event and look at themselves in the mirror and say, "I played my best and treated everyone with respect." I know we play sports for the love of the game, but we must remember that we are all on the same team in the
Respect is a value that has to be taught to our youngest members of society. Parents should have a moral obligation to teach their children to respect others. If every generation continues to practice less respect than the generation before it, our society will soon cease to function. Respect can be taught and it can be displayed so our youth can learn by example. We must stop letting our young people learn from bad examples glorified in many of our media outlets today.
Respect is seen everyday from school to home, from our parents to our teachers, from our leaders to our peers. Respect is needed for a society to be prosperous; however, a society without of respect is on the brink of near anarchy. A society without respect will be a society that won’t exist. Respect is the building blocks of community in which respect structures the hierarchy of the community. With respect being the building blocks of community, respect is needed in society to help with its own growth and to help its patrons be more disciplined.
Respecting yourself invites others to respect you. It all starts with you. Give respect and you will earn respect, and we will all live in better world.
When you look at all that is going on in the world today, it seems to me that respect is one of the things that is lacking. We hear on
We must all respect others in the same way we expect to be treated The Law of Respecting Others should be universally applied
