Everybody has educational barriers, and everyone has a specific way to overcome it.There’s always going to be barriers, but I never gave up. My first educational barriers were learning. In 1st grade it was hard to communicate with my classmate and teacher.I felt disappointed in myself and discourage making me feel important. Meanwhile, my cousin taught me how to speak English fluently, we first started with basic words like ‘’hi’’ or ‘’good morning.’’That’s how I worked myself through this barrier and to this day, I know how to speak English fluently. Although, some students would make fun of me because I would have an accent. For example, when people come from a different country and they try to talk English they would have an accent of their original country. In the other hand, I was failing math because unlike all the other students, I am not the fastest learner. I would always get confused with the structure and format of the question. For instance, fractions, decimals, and word problems would confuse me . Accordingly, I wasn’t very good with solving any of that so I knew I had to start attending tutoring. I had very good help from the students at Loma Linda University. They taught me an easier way to solve any problem, and that caused my test scores to increase. I can pass that class with no problem now. That means a lot to me because I know what will happen if I don’t give up. I will overcome any barriers that come my way! In addition, I would say that my educational barriers have been learning to speaking , reading, writing and math. I know I can overcome any barriers by putting all my effort and time into it. Education is the way to success, but I am determined to get there no matter what I go through. Challenges have varied throughout my life in both health complications and society itself. Early trauma has conflicted my mom for sometime whose brothers died in a horrendous drowning accident in 1979 . As life progressed and I came into the world, drug addiction and other illnesses manifested in our outside family, eventually making its way to my older sister. These events at a young age helped me understand reality faster than a normal person.
A time I faced a challenge was the beginning of the 7 th grade and my first year of actual middle school. I was not doing well the first few months of school and didn’t understand the work and I was shy and not open enough to talk to my new teachers. I would not understand the material presented in class and was not motivated. Towards the end of the first semester I was failing most of my classes and my highest grade was a C. I did not know what to do with my life I and with all the stress building up on me I didn’t know what to do . Until one day my mom wanted to do something about it and saw me challenging this action helped changed my life.
One of the biggest challenges i’ve faced would have to be when I attended SOAR High School. SOAR High School is a very educational based school, where students are required to take college courses along with rigorous high school courses. It took a lot of thinking and debating to whether or not I should apply, I was not sure if I was ready for this opportunity, the idea of taking taking college and High School classes seemed overwhelming, however, I decided to apply. I did not attend the Preparatory School for SOAR, which meant I would be progressing from a normal Junior HIgh School into an advanced High School. Once I got accepted we had to enroll in our College courses, the process of this was really exasperating, since prior to this I never
Because of my persistence to make my artwork look realistic, I would take a long time to complete my experiments. I overcame this by trying not to be so picky about every mistake I made. I also had poor time management issues, but I overcame them by coming in during my recess and lunch time, as well as during afterschool.
Challenges are everywhere especially when you are going to school and with each challenge you become mature. I remember when I entered first grade I was having difficulties with reading and writing, so my teacher discussed this issue with my parents so they can work on helping me improve my reading and writing skills. When my teacher saw that I really wanted to change and I was willing to work hard for it, she helped me tremendously to achieve my goal. I remember spending eight hours a day studying and my dad would always bring something new that would help me learn better. Additionally, I remember that sometimes I would spend lunch breaks with my teacher reading books. The thing that mostly made me want to work this hard was to regain my confidence in front of the other students.

A time that I faced a challenge was my junior year in high school. This was my hardest year academically. I felt as if three out of my five classes were impossible to pass (the other two being electives). It seemed like no matter how hard I studied or how much tutoring I received, there was no light at the end of the tunnel. Going from a straight A student with an occasional B here and there to then being in the low B range killed me. I stressed myself out tremendously over grades to where it became unhealthy. I would have migraines daily. I would come home, go straight to my room and dwell on the fact that I had no idea how to start my homework let alone complete it. I would sit there, depressed, crying my eyes out because I had nowhere to
I have faced many challenges during my two years of high school. My most challenging academic course would have to be taking Algebra. My largest challenge in Algebra would be the test taking and quizzes in this course. I was able to meet this challenge in many ways such as focusing in class, keeping up with my work, and asking as many questions as needed.
An educational barrier I faced was being stuck in a class of slower learners. In middle school I goofed off a lot and wondered why every year I was in the same class with the same people. At the end of 8th grade year I decided I wanted to change so when I entered high school, I stayed on top of my work. I fought hard and talked to the counselors almost every day to advance myself so I could be in a higher class. I started joining clubs that required a certain grade point average, taking advantage of college classes that a local junior college offered. By my senior year of high school I completed most of my requirements and added extra classes so I could stay ahead of the game. I can now say that I
