The American Revolution was the first of its kind. Colonist rebelling against a supreme power, and successfully overthrowing Great Britain was at the time, something unheard of. In 1776, the colonist wrote the Declaration of Independence to declare independence from England. Over 200 years have passed since the American Revolution, and the question remains. Were the American colonist justified in waging war and breaking away from Britain? The answer to this question is yes, the American colonist were justified by taxes imposed by Britain, the Proclamation of 1763, and their unalienable rights being violated. The first reason why the colonist were justified was the taxes forced upon them by Britain. “If Great-Britain can order us to come to her necessaries we want, and can order us to pay taxes she pleases before we take them away, or when we land them here we are as abject slaves”(Document B). Britain treats the colonist as if they are pitiful slaves. They do not value the colonist. Even …show more content…
The colonist just won a hard fought war against the France and their allies, the Indians. After the war “the British government however, passed a law called the Proclamation of 1763, saying that these lands were to be reserved for the Indian Nations”(Document A). The colonist were outraged, many colonist died during this war. After the war they win all this land, and are told they are not allowed to settle on the land. Furthermore, Britain reserve it for the people they just fought the war against. The colonist kept a cool head and continued to logically request for this act to be annulled as stated in Document E “In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms.” When King George heard the colonist’s protest, he did absolutely nothing and let the colonist continue to live in a confined area. The colonist were, in a way,
In 1763, the French and Indian War ended, leaving Great Britain with large debts. In order to help with the debt, Great Britain passed laws to tax the colonists. The colonists were furious. Were the American colonists justified in waging war and breaking away from Britain? Yes, the American colonists were justified in waging war to break away from Britain because the British Parliament was over taxing the colonists, the colonists were forced to stay on the East side of the Appalachian Mountains, and they had to pay to house and care for British soldiers.
According to the Declaration Of Independence, abuse of the representative powers and their natural rights gave the people the right to eliminate their current government and create a new one. Thomas Jefferson outlines the mistakes of the British government, and asserts that citizens were restricted of natural rights. In such case, during the American Revolution, colonies had the right to get rid of their government because the king was not rightly protecting the citizens rights. Not only that, but direct taxes were enforced upon the citizens leading to acts being passed in opposition to the rebellion. All things considered, I would say that the American Revolution was justified under the Declaration of Independence.
The colonists were in every right, aspect and mind, not only justified but also it was about time that they stood of and actually take action against the British. The choice of going to war with them, was the only choice that they had. All diplimatical options that they had ceased to stand a chance against the tyrant Britain. From the very beginning when the colonists felt upset against their mother country and the way that they went about the law making, up until the beginning of the war, they tried all diplimatical options that they had, by sending letters, you name it. When they didn’t work then they had no other means but to declare war.
The British were cruel, forceful, and just plain mean. Colonists asked the British for their rights, but no, the British would not give them their rights. Britain was a horrible country, and they didn’t listen to the Colonists, although they were usually right.
“Give me liberty or give me death!” Patrick Henry. I believe that the Colonists were justified in waging war and breaking away from Britain and the King. King George was making the Colonists pay very unfair taxes, he was trying to rule over them from all the way over in England, and he wouldn’t take the colonies legislators opinions into consideration. While some people may say that the Colonists were just unappreciative, that is not correct. They continued to stay with the King until the King turned on them and made them do things they didn’t want to do and shouldn’t have to do.
The American colonies were justified in their response to the taxes King George III and Parliament applied on the colonist as Britain allowed this new world to form its own reality and sense of independence by refusing to financially support the colonies and ignoring the large gap that developed over time between the colonies and Britain.
The Proclamation of 1763 began a growing resentment for basically the same reason they were upset towards the Indians. In the Transcript of the Proclamation of 1763, it states, ” And We do further strictly enjoin and require all Persons whatever, who have either wilfully or inadvertently seated themselves upon any Lands within the Countries above described, or upon any other Lands, which, not having been ceded to, or purchased by Us, are still reserved to the said Indians as aforesaid, forthwith to remove themselves from such Settlements.”(King George III, 1763) If I was a colonist and I read this I would be like, “you are not my mom. I get your my King and have almost complete control over me, but you are not my mom and can’t tell me what to do.”, but then I would follow him in fear that I would get in trouble and be killed. King George III also writes. “And We do further declare it to be Our Royal Will and Pleasure, for the present as aforesaid, to reserve under Our Sovereignty, Protection, and Dominion, for the Use of the said Indians...We do hereby strictly forbid, on Pain of Our Displeasure, all Our loving Subjects from making any Purchases or Settlements whatever, or taking Possession of any of the Lands above reserved, without Our especial Leave and License for that Purpose first obtained.”(King George III,1763) The Colonists were probably mad for the same reason as they were upset. It’s kind of like the King saying, it’s our pleasure, like a mom saying to an aunt that their kid didn’t want to come over, to give this land. Also “Our loving Subjects” is also like a mom getting on to their kid being like “my Wonderful daughter”, but in code saying “you better behave”. But it wasn’t their pleasure and they were just saying that to get on the Indians good side, and the colonists knew that so they were getting more and more upset, until they eventually rebelled. The growing resentment between them started when this Proclamation was written and the colonists got so fed up that they eventually rebelled.
Before the American Revolution in 1775 the British were in major dept so they decided to tax the colonists. This made the colonist very furious so they started to protest against the Britains like dumping 342 chests of tea into the Boston Harbor, loyalists were being tarred and feathered, and many more horrible things. The colonists were justified in waging war and breaking away from the Britains for many reasons for example the Britain's enforced many taxes like the Stamp Act, tea act, and the Townshend Act. The colonists were also justified in breaking away from the British because the British were very tyrant towards the colonist like the quartering act, the intolerable act, and the Boston Massacre.
Shots were fired in Lexington and Concord, thus starting the American Revolution. Were the colonist justified in going into war with Britain? The American colonist were justified in waging war with Britain because of the unfair acts and taxes, tyrannical acts of King George III, and the bloody massacre of the British. One reason the Revolutionary War was justified was because they wanted to break free of the unnecessary taxes and acts. Document 2 revealed that the colonist (specifically John Dickinson) thought the the acts we “unconstitutional and destructive”.
One way that the colonists were justified, was in the Boston Massacre, the battle of Lexington, and the Boston tea party. First, the Boston Massacre was really a revenge plan for the British in order to show how the colonists felt about taxation. The colonists may had justified themselfs in many ways already, but the Boston massacre was one of the biggest protests against
The American Revolution was a justified war. It was the colonists against a tyranny. When the British came to America, they established themselves in Virginia. There are many reasons the American Revolution was created. The British forced laws on the colonists without their consent.
The American Revolution was a political uprising that took place between 1765 and 1783. during that time period colonists from the 13 American colonies rejected the British monarchy and overthrew the authority of Great Britain. the Founding Fathers were justified in rebelling against the British government and declaring Independence because King George III was acting as a tyrant and America wanted Independence from Britain's control. evidence to support this includes Britain's attempt to repay debt form the French and Indian war, Britain micro managing the colonies, and the taxes imposed upon the colonists .
Were the colonists’ rights really violated enough to justify a revolt against Britain? Colonists came to America for a new beginning and more freedoms. When they revolted they stopped receiving British imports protection, and we had created the Magna Carta to give them government rights. There was absolutely no reason for the colonists to revolt against Britain.
Another grievance taken up by the white colonists against Britain is the Crown’s continual indifference towards the suffering of the colonies. The Declaration mentions that “when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object, evinces a design to reduce them under absolute despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such government, and to
Today the United States of America is a very successful country with lots of natural, geological, and cultural diversity. However, it wasn’t always like this. It all started with the 13 colonies. They wanted a democratic government and didn’t like how the king was a tyrant. So, in 1775 the colonists attempted to break away and create their own army. The colonists had weak forces at first, but as the wars progressed they got better and better. Eventually, they defeated Great Britain which even today seems like a miracle. Upon reflection, the American Revolution is justified due to the unreasonable taxes, the Boston Massacre, and the British taking the colonists’ natural rights away.
