Describe the conformational changes (including substrates that bind to the different conformations) that occur in the F1 domain of ATP Synthase that result from protons flowing through the Fo domain down their concentration gradient:

Expert Solution
Step 1

ATP synthase is a rotatory motor enzyme present in complex V. This ATP synthase utilizes the proton gradient for formation of ATP.

ATP synthase has two subunits: Fo and F1 subunit.

Fo subunit is involved in translocation of proton and F1 subunit has catalytic activity.

F1 part act as rotatory chemical motor powered by hydrolysis of ATP while Fo part is rotatory electrical motor powered by proton gradient.
