With stringent federal fuel efficiency laws looming on the horizon, combined with growing technology that is becoming increasingly affordable, every major automaker is currently selling or developing an eco-friendly vehicle. The 2012 environmental flagship models are not just electric vehicles (EV), hybrids and fuel cell vehicles (FCV). In fact, great strides are being made to improve the performance and productivity of diesel, gasoline and natural gas vehicles as well.

BMW plans to heavily promote its new concept cars during the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. The i3 and i8, which start at $35,000, will have a limited world debut before the year ends.
2. SkyActive Technology
Recognized as the Best Innovation at the 2011 San Diego Auto Show in December, Mazda’s SkyActive Technologies [http://www.mazda.com/publicity/release/2010/201010/101020a.html] are generating considerable buzz. Launching as a completely new type of direct-injection gasoline and clean diesel engines, these highly efficient technologies achieve the industry’s highest compression ratio of 14.0:1.
The next-generation line also includes an automatic transmission and a compact manual transmission as well as a lightweight chassis and rigid body that achieved incredible crash safety ratings. The Demio, the first SkyActiv-equipped vehicle, was released in 2011 in Japan only. The new CX-5 crossover SUV with the SkyActive-G gas engine will debut in U.S. markets in March 2012, and Mazda expects to deliver the new Mazda6 sedan with a SkyActive-D diesel engine to select markets by the end of the year.

3. Four-Cylinder Engine
The four-cylinder, internal combustion engine is undergoing some incredible revolutions in 2012. More than a dozen of the biggest brands in
In 2002 a joint project between International Navistar and the Ford Motor Company was born. “The goal of this project was to create an engine that was fuel efficient, emission compliant and would be able to outperform all of the competition” (Banks Power). With over 2 million ford super duty’s equipped with the 7.3l Powerstroke engine on the road, the new engine would have big shoes to fill. The engine that was to replace the outdated, underpowered and overall inadequate 7.3l Powerstroke was the International Navistar 6.0l turbo diesel.
In addition, consumer must be aware that there are better alternatives to hybrids on market. Thanks to advancing technology, many petro powered and diesel powered vehicle get similar EPA fuel economy on highway. From German automotive manufacture, they have developed Clean Diesel such as Blue Tec from Mercedes-Benz and TDI from Volkswagen which
They all include “PowerDoor Locks, Keyless Entry and a Power Driver side Mirror” (“Competitive Comparison” 2). Also, both cars have interior similarities, such as the “Driver Airbag, Passenger Airbag and Vehicle Anti - theft system” (“Competitive Comparison” 2). The pair of cars also offer turbocharged engines. There are three options of engines to choose from: four-cylinder, V6, and V8.
Fuel efficiency in automobiles has become a topic of much discussion in recent years in the United States. This is due largely to the environmental devastation that fuel emissions cause, but it is also sparked by the rising fuel costs. Making cars with high fuel efficiency not only saves consumers money, but also will drastically reduce the pollution that is caused by emissions. Today automakers are putting a tremendous amount of effort into making their cars more fuel efficient, both to meet government regulations and to make their car more appealing to the consumer.
Similarly government regulations in the United States and Europe are tightening up, consequently requiring cars to be cleaner and more fuel efficient. As a result, the collaboration with BMW is paramount to getting the most fuel efficient vehicles to the market in a timely manner so that GM can harvest a substantial profit. (3) In addition General Motors is working on the next generation of fuel efficient and gasoline free vehicles to help reduce the impact of the vehicle on the environment, while preserving personal mobility, which further indicates its commitment to innovation. It will get 5.0-liter V8, naturally sought and will be able to produce 467 hp and 389 of £ feet of torque. It is all-wheel drive option and torque vectoring differential, which is going to provide everyone with the same amount of energy. Its engine will be combined with the eight-speed automatic transmission.
The primary engine of this vehicle will be a 6.0-liter V8 engine Virtec who have the capacity to produce 345 horsepower and an equally high torque. If this engine also be a higher fuel economy compared to the economic in the previous models and therefore this vehicle. The motor is a high acceleration and high top speed one that makes this vehicle ideal for people who love speed.
Along with Eaton and Cummins, Dana has engineered what is touted to be the fastest, lightest and most efficient drivetrain to help fleets maximize the benefits of
The effort has yielded a new 10-speed automatic transmission, one that will find its way into various models over the next few years. That the two competing pony cars will share the same transmission means one less important edge for both manufacturers. Instead, the two companies will have to find other ways to beat each other with such factors as horsepower, steering and handling, and aerodynamics providing key differences.
With great innovation, Chevrolet has revamped a multitude of its products to assist with branding and to deal with new environmental regulations. Furthermore, Chevrolet offers a collection of the following listed cars in 2017: Spark, Impala, Chevrolet SS, Corvette, Tahoe, and Suburban (Colias, 2015). Over the past decades, these models have met countless environmental and regulatory challenges. More specifically, unfamiliar fuel economy rules are in place that will require car manufacture to double the miles per gallon standards for the cars and light trucks (Tuttle, 2012). This brand-new rule would be considered a weakness of Chevrolet, since a few of the best selling brands of Chevrolet achieve low miles per gallon. Chevrolet has introduced
It is through this that Acura TSX and Ford F-150 vehicles claim sophistication and innovation where they are the epitome of efficiency. Whether a vehicle is desired to promote social status and eloquence or carry heavy loads through tough terrain with durability, these products are the paragon of
Many of the issues facing America’s manufacturers are being increasingly solved by technological advances. The automotive industry is currently experiencing a technological expansion in alternative energy sources. The need for alternative energy sources is being pushed by consumers and the government. Consumers have become more environmentally aware and conscious about their carbon footprint. Additionally, economic conditions and rising gas prices have put pressure on manufacturers to increase gas mileage. In Kansas, gas prices were consistently above three dollars a gallon from 2010 to the end of 2014 (kcgasprices.com).
There is a serious problem facing the world right now. It is air pollution. The number one contributor to this epidemic is automobile emissions. We have all heard of the issues that are involved with air pollution including the depletion of the o-zone layer, the green house effect, and acid rain. The problem has been scoped from every imaginable angle, and now it is time to solve the problem. I propose that each of the ‘Big Three’ (Ford, General Motors, and Chrysler) car manufacturers be required to have 10% of their product line as EV’s By the year 2010. I propose this because it will be the start of cleaner air, EV advancement, and awareness of EV’s and how they work.
5 Series: The 5 Series car was launched in 1972 and is available in both Saloon and Touring models with a number of petrol and diesel engine options. The 5 Series is known for its agility, performance and driving dynamics.
To enhance the efficiency of Mechanical and Thermal is the major driver for the Engines team, owning to the requirement for continually reducing the CO2 output of the vehicles. Downsizing is the main focus, while friction reduction, pumping losses reduction and combustion efficiency are largely emphasized with the help of engine de-throttling.
