How do you feel about women holding higher positions within corporations? In today’s society, there are several inequalities between women and men. These inequalities between women and men have been around since the beginning of time and will always be a factor. Gender inequality can be seen in many different ways across our society today. One major area that this inequality can be seen is in the workforce. There are many women who have jobs in today’s society, but there are not a lot of chances for women to obtain higher positions. Women do not receive the same chances to hold high positions within corporations as men do. Women who are in the workforce are constantly having to choose between work and family. Women also feel the need for whole-self authenticity, which means that one is true to one’s own personality and character even against external pressures. In this scenario, people are themselves at work as they are in their private life. Gender inequality in the workplace is a serious issue that affects women socially, economically, and physically.

Engraved in the mindsets of most people are the traditional foundations that men are the workers of the family. Women in the early ages were to stay home, cook, clean and care for the children. The ideology of separate spheres is one all history majors and students have come to know very well. But standing here as a woman, I see a greater future for myself than just remaining in the kitchen, or the birthing room. Overtime, the world still spinning, spheres have shifted. Men are not the only members of the working class society. A new ideology, one of inclusiveness and equality for all able bodied people, ready to work has arisen. The gender revolution as some call it, has taken over in America and other countries around the world. This gradual shift
The presense of women in the workforce has been growing steadily and now more than ever women are accompling things that were not even to be thought of in the 1800s/ early 1900s. Women can be felt in alsmost every aspect of the workplace; however American women, unlike their male counter parts still deal with workplace barriers that affect their progression into the upper levels of a corporation or company. People can argue that in the workplace women have the same opportunities as men

Workplace diversity is so important since increasingly work is performed in teams and will need to be able to work together. The strengths and talents that diversity brings to the workplace will develop respect for their colleagues’ performance. I was fortunate enough five years ago to have “Mrs. Lisa” a mechanical engineer, on my committee. She came and discussed mechanical engineering as a great and expanding career choice. I believe it is from her visits, several girls in my classes that have since enrolled in college a majoring in engineering. Without “Mrs. Lisa” and others like her on this professional committee, many of my students would not be able to “see themselves” in that
In the workplace, discrimination and harassment can appear in many different forms and for many different reasons. Some individuals are discriminated against due to age, gender, and even for being pregnant, despite that fact that there are laws in place to stop it. It is not always obvious and those who are victimized can be affected greatly. Discrimination and harassment in the workplace can be reduced by educating the workforce and by providing information about the laws that govern each type of discrimination.
For example, the behavior of men and women in the workplace was surprisingly found to be similar. While differences may have existed in the past, those differences are disappearing. According to Walston, this is due to more fearless women in the workplace insisting on credit for their accomplishments. Women are actively working to shatter the “glass ceiling”. Once can assume with the continuation of dual-earner households and shared roles, there will be no place for gender stereotyping in the future workplace. Therefore, if employers are recognizing the shared work and family roles of both genders, while aware of the fact that businesses with family-friendly policies have more reliable employees, then they should be putting effort into more gender research and implementing effective family-friendly policies. After all, a work environment with gender equality benefits the entire workforce and increases productivity. While some of these policies have major kinks to work out, recent research shows these problems will be resolved in

The purpose of this essay to demonstrate the cultural differences between the UK manager going to work as an expatriate manager in Colombia. By taking into consideration Hofstede, Bond, Trompenaars and other cross cultural management researchers to advise the UK manager about the Colombian culture, taking into consideration the differences between leadership styles, decision making, recruitment and selection, motivation, planning and team versus individual working. The reason for selecting Colombia was that according to the results by Geert Hofstede, these two countries are very opposite to one another. Today’s American workforce is a far distant cousin to the workforce of 50 years ago. As Robbins and Judge (2009) state, the workforce of the 50’s was only around 30% women, whereas today’s workforce is far more diverse, or at least there are more women (Robbins and Judge, 2009, p.20). The white-male dominated employment force is rapidly decreasing and morphing into a far more diverse arena. In fact, today’s workforce is nearly half women (Burns, Barton & Kerby, 2012). A far cry from the male-driven factories and businesses seen on TV today. But this does not truly represent a diverse workforce.
Good Management is about accountability and being able to execute, coordinate and implement programs and policies to ensure that the organization runs smoothly. Also it entails one to constantly be aware of the facts and to have the knowledge and ability to follow-up on all matters pertaining to the organization. In any organization good management calls for continuous due diligence and clear communication that is rooted within each task at hand and providing the tools and resources necessary to help move forward people needs, mission and objectives. However, these functions can become very challenging at times, especially when one has to deal with some unions, and administrations over time. Thus, politics become the absolute determining factor as one tries to perform their roles as a manager in the field of the public sector. Rainey chapter 14, states that, “Criticism of government and its components, such as government officials, organizations, and employees, is a thriving industry in the United States.”(p.450) This is true, because the United States being a capitalist country and for which it stands have also created a far different system of government compared to other countries around the world.
