Adenet le Roi (Thirteenth Century)
Adenet le Roi (äd-nā’ le-rwä’). A French minstrel of the second half of the thirteenth century, whose surname is interpreted as meaning king (leader) of the minstrels, which function he performed at the court of Henri III., Duke of Brabant. His work consists of remodelings of three Chansons de Gestes, and of the romance of adventure, ‘Cléomadès,’ which stands in some sort of relation to Chaucer’s ‘Squire’s Tale.’
