Alexander Druzhinin (1824–1864)

Druzhinin, Alexander Vassilyevitch (drö’shē-nēn). A Russian critic and story-writer; born in St. Petersburg, Oct. 20, 1824; died there, Jan. 31, 1864. He is best known by his tales, especially that of ‘Pauline Sachs’ (1847); but his essays on literary topics, notably ‘Johnson and Boswell,’ and his translations from Shakespeare, are meritorious.
