Alexandre Guiraud (1788–1847)
Guiraud, Alexandre Baron (gē-rō’). A French poet and dramatist; born in Limoux, Dec. 25, 1788; died at Paris, Feb. 24, 1847. ‘The Maccabees,’ a tragedy, was his first unqualified success. His ode addressed to the Greeks had attracted some notice; and he now brought out a volume of ‘Songs of a Savoyard,’ which attained great popularity, especially ‘The Little Savoyard.’ He wrote several other dramas, and a romance or two.
