Angelo Brofferio (1802–1866)
Brofferio, Angelo (brof-fā’rē-ō). An Italian poet and journalist; born near Asti, Piedmont, in 1802; died on May 26, 1866. He wrote several dramas and comedies; ‘Salvator Rosa’; ‘Return of the Prescript’; ‘My Cousin’; ‘All for the Best’: they met with much popular favor. By a volume of patriotic ‘Songs,’ he obtained from his countrymen the title “Piedmontese Béranger.” His journal, Voce della Libertà, was a powerful instrument in bringing about the unification of Italy. He published two volumes of ‘Memoirs.’
