Antoine Alfred Désiré Carteret (18131889)
Carteret, Antoine Alfred Désiré (kär-trā’). A Swiss statesman and fabulist; born in Geneva, April 2, 1813; died there, Jan. 31, 1889. His political career was long and brilliant; and in literature he made a name with pleasing ‘Fables’ (1873), frequently treating political subjects, and a novel, ‘Two Friends’ (1872), descriptive of Genevese customs.
