Antoine Vincent Arnault (1766–1834)
Arnault, Antoine Vincent (är-nō’). A French poet and dramatist (1766–1834). He came into public notice through his tragedy ‘Marius at Minturnæ’ (1791); but more especially deserves remembrance for his satirical fables, in which he guarded successfully against imitation of La Fontaine, and for his graceful poems, of which ‘The Leaf,’ has become most widely known. His ‘Souvenirs of a Sexagenarian’ (1833) contain excellent delineations of character, and possess historical value.
