Charles Auguste, Marquis de La Fare (1644–1712)

La Fare, Charles Auguste, Marquis de (lä fär). A French poet; born at Castle Valgorge, Vivarais, 1644; died in Paris, 1712. A friend of Marshal Turenne, he distinguished himself in the campaigns of 1667 and 1674; but left the army afterward and devoted himself to a life of pleasure, the delights of which he celebrated in verse. The Duke of Orléans wrote the music for his opera of ‘Panthée.’
