Charles Baudelaire (1821–1867)
Baudelaire, Charles (bōd-lãr’). A French poet and critic; born in Paris, April 9, 1821; died there, Aug. 31, 1867. His works include a translation of Poe (1852–65); the collection of poems ‘Flowers of Evil’ (1857); ‘Théophile Gautier’ (1859); ‘Artificial Paradises, Opium and Hashish’ (1860); ‘Little Prose Poems’; besides essays and sketches.
