Charles Henry Parkhurst (1842–1933)
Parkhurst, Charles Henry. An American clergyman and reformer; born at Framingham, MA, April 17, 1842; died in 1933. From 1880 he was pastor of the Madison Square Presbyterian Church. In 1891, as president of the Society for the Prevention of Crime, he began his attack on the police department of New York City, and was prominent in the Lexow investigation which followed. His writings include: ‘The Blind Man’s Creed’ (1883); ‘Three Gates on a Side’ (1891); ‘Our Fight with Tammany’ (1895); ‘A Little Lower than the Angels’ (1910).
