Charlotte Brontë (18161855)
Brontë, Charlotte. An English novelist, sister of Anne and Emily; born in Thornton, April 21, 1816; died in Haworth, March 31, 1855. Her ‘Jane Eyre’ (1847) was published under her pseudonym “Currer Bell”; and many personal experiences are embodied in her novels, which are: ‘Jane Eyre’ (1847); ‘Shirley’ (1849); ‘Villette’ (1853); ‘The Professor’ (1855); and ‘Emma,’ unfinished.
