David Friedrich Strauss (18081874)
Strauss, David Friedrich. A German writer and critic of great celebrity; born at Ludwigsburg, Würtemberg, Jan. 27, 1808; died there, Feb. 8, 1874. His book ‘The Life of Jesus,’ published in 1834–35, made him famous. He passed a life of great literary productivity, and was engaged all his life in critical and theological controversies.
