Emanuel Geibel (18151884)
Geibel, Emanuel (gī’bel). A German poet; born in Lübeck, Oct. 18, 1815; died there, April 6, 1884. He was a versatile writer, publishing several volumes of verse chiefly on clerical subjects, and tragedies frequently drawn from Germanic antiquity: ‘King Roderich’ (1843); ‘King Sigurd’ (1846); ‘Brunhild’ (1858); ‘Sophonisbe’ (1869).
