Southworth, Emma Dorothy Eliza (Nevitte). One of the most prolific of American novelists; born in Washington, DC, Dec. 26, 1819; died there, June 30, 1899. Among her sixty-odd stories are: ‘Retribution’; ‘Unknown’; ‘The Family Doom’; ‘The Mother’s Secret’; and ‘An Exile’s Bride.’
