Francisco Martínez de la Rosa (1787–1862)
Martínez de la Rosa, Francisco (mär-tē’neth dā lä rō’sä). A distinguished Spanish statesman, poet, dramatist, and miscellaneous writer; born at Granada, March 10, 1787; died at Madrid, Feb. 7, 1862. His best works were the tragedy ‘Œdipus,’ the drama ‘The Venetian Conspiracy,’ and the comedy ‘The Daughter at Home and the Mother at the Ball.’ His novels ‘Hernan Perez’ and ‘Isabel de Solis,’ and his ‘Spirit of the Age,’ are slight.
