Franz Horn (1781–1837)

Horn, Franz Christoph (horn). A German novelist, historian of literature, and essayist; born, July 30, 1781; died on July 19, 1837. His romances and tales, ‘Guiscardo, the Poet,’ ‘Battle and Victory,’ and the ‘Wandering Jew,’ were once widely read, but are now forgotten. More noteworthy are: ‘Outlines of the History and Nature of German Polite Literature from 1790 to 1818’; ‘German Poetry and Rhetoric from Luther’s Time to Our Own’; ‘Shakespeare’s Plays.’
