Gaston Bruno Paulin Paris (1839–1903)
Paris, Gaston Bruno Paulin (pä-rēs’). A distinguished French Romance philologist; born at Avenay, Aug. 9, 1839; died at Paris, March 6, 1903. He was professor of the French language and literature at the Collège de France, and did much to arouse interest in the study of Romance philology. ‘A Poetical History of Charlemagne’ (1866); ‘Poetry of the Middle Ages’ (1885), and ‘French Mediæval Literature’ (1888), were his most important publications.
