George Brinton McClellan (1826–1885)
McClellan, George Brinton. A distinguished American general; born in Philadelphia, Dec. 3, 1826; died in Orange, NJ, Oct. 29, 1885. He was commander of the Army of the Potomac, 1861–62. The most important of his works are: ‘Report on the Organization and Campaigns of the Army of the Potomac’ (1864); ‘The Armies of Europe’; ‘European Cavalry’; and ‘McClellan’s Own Story’ (1887).
