George Francis Savage-Armstrong (1845–1906)
Savage-Armstrong, George Francis. An Irish poet; born in the county of Dublin, May 5, 1845; died in 1906. Brother of the Edmund John Armstrong. Professor of history and English literature at Queen’s College, Cork, after 1871. His works include: ‘Poems, Lyrical and Dramatic’ (1869); ‘Ugone,’ a tragedy (1870); ‘Tragedy of Israel,’ a trilogy comprising ‘King Saul’ (1872), ‘King David’ (1874), and ‘King Solomon’ (1876); ‘Essays’ (1877); and ‘Mephistopheles in Broadcloth’ (1888), a satire in verse.
