George Santayana (1863–1952)

Santayana, George. An American poet and essayist, professor of philosophy at Harvard (1889–1912); born at Madrid, Spain, Dec. 16, 1863; died in 1952. Among his published works are: ‘Sonnets and Other Poems’ (1894); ‘The Sense of Beauty’ (1896); ‘Lucifer, a Theological Tragedy’ (1899); ‘Interpretations of Poetry and Religion’ (1900); ‘The Hermit of Carmel’ (1901); ‘The Life of Reason’ (1905–06); ‘Three Philosophical Poets: Lucretius, Dante, and Goethe’ (1910).
