George Washington Harris (1814–1869)

Harris, George Washington. An American humorist; born in Allegheny County, PA, 1814; died in 1869. While a Tennessee River steamboat captain he wrote, about 1860, for the New York Spirit of the Times, a series of broadly humorous character sketches called ‘Sut Lovengood’s Yarns,’ published in book form in 1867.
