Georges Cuvier (1769–1832)

Cuvier, Georges Léopold Chrétien Frédéric Dagobert (kū-vyā’). A celebrated French zoölogist; born at Montbéliard, Aug. 23, 1769; died at Paris, May 13, 1832. His first great work was ‘Lectures on Comparative Anatomy’ (5 vols., 1801). His master work is ‘The Animal Kingdom’ (4 vols., 1817). (See Critical and Biographical Introduction).
