Gian Frederic Caderas (18301891)
Caderas, Gian Frederic (kä-dā’räs). A distinguished Swiss dialect poet and story-writer; born at Modena, Italy, July 13, 1830; died at Samaden, Switzerland, Nov. 25, 1891. He cultivated the old Rhætian tongue, which still survives among some of the Tyrolese and elsewhere; producing much sprightly verse, the collections ‘Alpine Flowers’ (1883) and ‘Smiles and Tears’ (1887) containing fine specimens. His comedy of ‘The Apothecary’ (1864) was successful.
