Gonçalves Crespo (18461883)
Crespo, Antonio Candido Gonçalves (kres’pō). A Portuguese poet; born of a slave mother at Rio de Janeiro, March 11, 1846; died at Lisbon, June 11, 1883. He published only two small volumes: ‘Miniatures’ (1870): ‘Nocturns’ (1882). In collaboration with his wife, Maria Amalia Vaz de Carvalho, herself a notable writer, he is author of ‘Stories for our Children’ (1882).
