Grigoriï Fedorovitch Kvitka (17781843)
Kvitka, Grigoriï Fedorovitch (kvit’kä). A Russian novelist; born at Osnova (whence his appellation “Osnovianenko”), near Karkov, Nov. 29, 1778; died at Karkov, Aug. 20, 1843. He wrote both in Great and Little Russian, being one of the chief writers in the latter. His most popular work was the novel ‘Maroussia.’ In Great Russian he published two novels of manners and a number of dramas, the most popular of the latter being ‘Selmenko.’
