Heinrich Voss (1779–1822)
Voss, Heinrich. A German philologist, son of Johann H.; born at Otterndorf, Oct. 29, 1779; died on Oct. 20, 1822, at Heidelberg, where he was professor of philology, in succession to his father. He was a warm friend of Jean Paul Richter, and his literary executor. He completed his father’s translation of Æschylus (1826); this work, as also the ‘Correspondence between Heinrich Voss and Jean Paul’ and ‘Communications regarding Goethe and Schiller, in Letters by Heinrich Voss,’ appeared after his death.
