Henri d’Arbois de Jubainville (1827–1910)
Arbois de Jubainville, Henri d’ (är-bwä’ dė zhuba
‘vēl). A distinguished French archæologist; born at Nancy, Dec. 5, 1827, and died in 1910. He was the most eminent authority in France on Gallic antiquity and the Celtic languages. Of his works the most noteworthy are: ‘History of the Dukes and Counts of Champagne’ (1859–69); ‘The First Inhabitants of Europe’ (1877); ‘A Course of Celtic Literature’ (5 vols., 1883–1902).
