Horace White (1834–1916)
White, Horace. An American journalist and editor; born in Colebrook, NH, Aug. 10, 1834; died on Sept. 16, 1916. He was editor of the Chicago Tribune (1864–74), and subsequently connected with the New York Evening Post. He wrote many pamphlets and essays upon political, social, and financial topics, the best known being: ‘The Silver Question’; ‘The Tariff Question’; ‘Coin’s Financial Fool’; ‘Money and Banking Illustrated by American History’; ‘The Gold Standard’; and edited Luigi Cossa’s ‘Scienza delle Finanze’ (1888), and Frédéric Bastiat’s ‘Sophismes Economiques’ (1889).
