Hātifī (d. 1520?)
Hātifī, Maulânâ Abdallah (hâ-tif’i). A Persian poet; born in Chargird, province of Herat, in the fifteenth century; died in 1520?. His fame rests upon a series of five epic poems in couplets, in which he takes Nisâmi and Amir Chusrau, of Delhi, as his models. Three of the series are: ‘Laila and Mejnunnun’; ‘Love of the Sassanid Khosru’; ‘Haft Mansar’ (Seven Beauties). The fourth is in a fragmentary state, while the final one is the ‘Book of the Seven Timurs.’ He was one of the last of Persia’s great epic poets.
