Ignazio Ciampi (1824–1880)
Ciampi, Ignazio (chē-äm’pē). An Italian poet and historian (1824–80); born in Rome. He was a jurist, and from 1874 till his death was professor of modern history in the University of Rome. Among his poetical works are some imitations of the Russian Pushkin; an epic, ‘Stella’; and two volumes of ‘Various Poems.’ He wrote several works on the history of literature, also biographies and histories of special periods. His principal work appeared posthumously: ‘Modern History,’ from 1492 to the Peace of Westphalia.
