Jacob van Zevecote (16041646)
Zevecote, Jacob van (zā’ve-kot). A Dutch poet and dramatist, considered by his contemporaries the greatest Latin poet of his time; born at Gand, 1604; died in 1646. Among his works are: ‘Elegies’; ‘Greek Maria’ and ‘Rosimunda,’ tragedies; ‘Esther,’ a tragicomedy; ‘The Siege of Leyden’ (1626), a tragedy written in Flemish; and various collections of shorter poems.
