Schouler, James (skö’ler). An American historian; born at Arlington, MA, March 20, 1839; died in 1920. He graduated at Harvard; practiced law, and served in the army during the Civil War. He is author of legal textbooks and ‘History of the United States under the Constitution’ (5 vols., 1880–91); ‘Constitutional Studies’ (1896); ‘Eighty Years of Union’ (1904); ‘Ideals of the Republic’ (1908).
