Jan Alexander Fredro (1829–1891)

Fredro, Jan Alexander (frād’rō). A Polish dramatist, son of Count Alexander (1829–91). He served in the Polish Hungarian legion in the Hungarian revolt of 1848, and after its suppression lived in exile till 1857. Of his numerous comedies these may be mentioned: ‘Before Breakfast’ (1864); ‘Foreign Elements’ (1872); ‘The Goloshes’ (1879); ‘Poor or Rich’ (1880).
