Jan Jindřich Marek (1803–1853)
Marek, Jan Jindřich (mä’rek). A Bohemian novelist and poet; born at Liblin, Nov. 4, 1803; died at Kralovice, Nov. 3, 1853. He became a priest in 1826. He wrote: ‘Poems’ (1823); ‘Lilies of the Valley’ (2 vols., 1824 and 1826), novels. His works were published in 10 vols., at Prague 1843–47. The first two volumes contain ballads, legends, and short poems; the other eight are novels, including ‘The Harper,’ ‘The Bohemians in Prussia,’ ‘A Night at Kacerov,’ ‘The Quack,’ etc.
