Jean Desmarets de Saint-Sorlin (15951676)
Desmarets de Saint-Sorlin, Jean (dā-mär-ā’ dė sa-sor-la‘). A French poet (1595–1676); born at Paris. He was a favorite of Cardinal Richelieu and one of the first members of the Academy. He wrote several plays; among them a character comedy, ‘The Visionaries’ (1637). He wrote also epics; among them: ‘Clovis’ (1657) and ‘Mary Magdalene’ (1669).
