Thunmann, Johann Erich (tön’män). A Swedish historian and archæologist; born in 1746; died in 1778. He wrote: ‘The Borderland of History and Poetry’ (1772); ‘Researches on the History of the Nations of Eastern Europe’ (1774); ‘The Ancient Poetical Literature of the North’ (1775); ‘The Discovery of America’ (1776); ‘Researches on the Ancient History of Some Northern Nations’ (1777).
